Mother's Day Weekend Guide to Thousand Oaks and Beyond — 2026

What is there to do in Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Valley for Mother's Day weekend 2026? From lakeside brunches and live mariachi to free outdoor concerts and waterfall hikes, Mother's Day weekend 2026 in the Conejo Valley and surrounding Ventura County communities is full of ways to celebrate without fighting traffic to the city.

Mother's Day in this corner of Southern California has a rhythm that's hard to beat. The hills are still green from the spring rains, the farmers markets are loaded with fresh-cut flowers, and restaurant patios are genuinely enjoyable this time of year. Whether you're planning a full weekend for your whole family or just looking for one well-chosen afternoon, there's more happening locally than most people realize. Here's what's on the calendar.

Brunches Worth the Reservation

If you're treating Mom to a proper sit-down meal, Thousand Oaks and the surrounding areas have a few standouts this weekend. Mediterraneo in Westlake Village is offering a three-course prix-fixe brunch and dinner. If you've been before, you already know the setting does half the work for you.

Boccaccio's Restaurant on Westlake Lake is running both a brunch buffet and a four-course dinner, and the lake views on a clear May morning are genuinely hard to argue with. Reservations will be harder to find the closer you get to Sunday, so don't wait on that one.

For something a little more relaxed, West Tasting Room in Thousand Oaks is hosting a Mother's Day Brunch and Bubbles on both Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. That Saturday option is underused and underrated if you want a real weekend without the Sunday rush. Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks is also hosting a Mother's Day Brunch Buffet on May 10 starting at 10 a.m., right at 299 S. Moorpark Road, and it's one of those spots that locals genuinely love.

If the vibe is more "lazy Sunday with really good waffles," Honey & Herb Belgian Waffle House in Newbury Park is a solid call. And Sunrose California Eatery is worth knowing about if you want a lively outdoor patio atmosphere where nobody feels rushed.

Live Music That's Worth the Drive

The Canyon Agoura Hills is hosting a Mother's Day Neil Diamond Tribute on Sunday, May 10. Doors open at 5 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m., and it follows dinner. If your mother or mother-in-law grew up on Neil Diamond, this is a layup. The Canyon is one of the better intimate live music venues in the region, and an event like this is better in person than it sounds on paper.

On Saturday, May 9, the Annual Mother's Day Mariachi Festival heads to the Oxnard Performing Arts Center at 11 a.m. Oxnard is a short drive from Thousand Oaks, and the Mariachi Festival draws a real crowd every year. It's the kind of cultural event that doesn't need hype to earn its place on the weekend calendar.

Ventura Harbor Village is hosting free live music both Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. Ventura Harbor has the waterfront setting, the open-air energy, and a Sunday afternoon there with live music running in the background is exactly as good as it sounds. You can find more about what's happening at Ventura Harbor Village directly.

On Sunday evening, Peter Strauss Ranch in Agoura Hills is hosting a live concert in the park from 5 to 8 p.m. with a suggested donation. Peter Strauss Ranch is one of those National Park Service gems that most people drive past on Mulholland Highway without realizing what's there. It's 30000 Mulholland Hwy if you want to map it now.

Free and Low-Key (But Not Low-Effort)

The Newbury Park Farmers Market runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Westlake Village Farmers Market is open Sunday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fresh flowers from a farmers market hit differently than a grocery store arrangement, and both markets pull from regional growers worth knowing about.

The Moorpark Apricot Festival on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Historic High Street is free to attend and genuinely fun if you've never been. Moorpark's downtown has been a well-kept secret for years, and the Apricot Festival is one of the best reasons to finally make the drive.

Patio Music Night at Tierra Rajada Golf Club in Moorpark on Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. is free, and it's a good warm-up to the weekend if you want to get out of the house before Sunday's logistics kick in.

The VC Astronomical Society Star Party at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills on Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m. is a free event that's genuinely special if you've got curious kids or a mom who'd appreciate seeing Saturn through a real telescope. Paramount Ranch has some history behind it and the dark skies out there are a different world from the valley floor.

For a weekend activity that requires zero planning, The Lakes at Thousand Oaks offers scenic ponds, paved walking paths, and family-friendly dining right in town. It's walkable, stroller-friendly, and low-pressure, which is sometimes exactly what the weekend calls for.

And if you want a hands-on experience, Flower and Flour Studio in Agoura Hills is hosting a Mother's Day Floral Workshop on Thursday, May 8 at 5:30 p.m. They do floral arrangement workshops and "Mommy and Me" cookie decorating. It's a paid event and worth booking ahead.

Hikes Worth the Morning

May is one of the best months to hike in the Conejo Valley before the heat settles in for summer. Paradise Falls in Thousand Oaks is the perennial favorite for a reason. The waterfall is active this time of year and the picnic spots along the trail make it a natural stop for a post-hike lunch.

Bowfield Hike is short and delivers panoramic views for minimal elevation gain. It's under a mile to the top and a strong option if the group has mixed fitness levels or you're bringing kids. The Wildwood / Lizard Rock Trail is a longer moderate loop with more varied terrain and better views if you want something that feels like a real hike.

China Flats is the one to know if someone in the group actually wants to work for it. It's mostly uphill single-track and best tackled on a cooler morning, which May mornings in the hills usually still are. If you're looking for something flat and scenic without the elevation, Lake Eleanor Open Space and the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden are both worth an easy morning.

For trail maps and current conditions in the Conejo Open Space, the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency has everything you need before you lace up.

This is a good weekend to be local. The Conejo Valley has a way of delivering quietly, and Mother's Day is one of the weekends where that's most obvious. The events are real, the scenery is earning its keep, and you don't have to go far to find something worth showing up for.
